Love, with specificity.

at 37, my friendships keep me tethered to a world that otherwise wishes me dead, that is incapable of honoring my humanity. we build worlds within a world, and we fill them with love and specificity.

in a world

full of uncertainty

is there a greater gift,

than the opportunity

to love

and be loved

with specificity?

to communicate

what you want,

what you need,

And what you expect.

to ask for what is wanted,

what is needed,

and what is expected.

to negotiate

what can be given.

to fill silence,

with agency

rather than assumptions.

to clarify

and co-create,

what this is.

to hold

and be held

accountable

to the shared agreement

upon missteps and shortcomings.

“Remember,

this is how you said

you would show up.”

“This is how I said

I would show up.”

to be fluid,

as we learn and unlearn,

shed

and expand.

No begging.

No guessing.

No coercion.

Just ballast -

defined as

“The heavy material that

is placed in the hold of a ship

to enhance stability.”

Love,

with specificity

provides ballast

in a world of uncertainty.

Is there a greater gift?
